An EMA crossover occurs when a shorter-period EMA crosses above or below a longer-period EMA. The 9-20 EMA crossover is popular for short-term trades. The 20-50 crossover for medium-term swing trades. The 50-200 crossover (Golden Cross / Death Cross) is the most significant for long-term position trades. Our scanner identifies all three crossover types across the full NSE and BSE universe daily.
The StoxGo Scanner detects: 9 EMA crossing 20 EMA (short-term intraday/swing). 20 EMA crossing 50 EMA (medium-term swing). 50 EMA crossing 200 EMA (Golden Cross / Death Cross for positional). Both bullish (short crosses above long) and bearish (short crosses below long) crossovers are flagged.
EMA crossovers work best in trending markets. In sideways/ranging markets, they produce multiple false signals (whipsaws). Always confirm with volume: strong EMA crossover with rising volume = higher probability. Use 200 EMA as a trend filter — only take bullish crossovers when price is above 200 EMA.
Golden Cross: 50-day EMA crosses above 200-day EMA = major bullish signal indicating start of a long-term uptrend. Death Cross: 50-day EMA crosses below 200-day EMA = major bearish signal indicating long-term downtrend. These signals appear few times per year but are historically significant.
For swing trading: 1) Scan for 20 EMA crossing above 50 EMA (bullish). 2) Confirm price is above 200 EMA (uptrend). 3) Wait for a small pullback to the 20 EMA. 4) Enter on a green candle with volume at the 20 EMA pullback. Stop loss below the 50 EMA. Target = 1.5 to 2× risk.
StoxGo updates scanner results every trading day after market hours. EMA crossovers are calculated on end-of-day data for all NSE and BSE stocks. The scan is free — no subscription or login required. Bookmark the scanner and check it daily.
